Her father had died shortly after she was born, so she never knew him. Jessica lived a very simple, poor muggle life until one day in late July a letter was delivered to their doorstep by owl. Upon opening the letter, she discovered that it was a formal invitation to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Her mother then explained to her that her father was a very powerful wizard who fought against the dark arts, and in the process, lost his life.

and how you're doing-- Upon arriving at Hogwarts, Jessica was overwhelmed, to say the least. Hogwarts Castle was the biggest, most extravagant piece of architecture that she had ever or would ever see in her entire life. Her first night in Hogwarts turned out to be one of her worst. Almost as soon as the sorting hat was placed on her head, it sorted her into Slytherin's house. Salazar Slytherin, however, would not take her on account that she was a half-blood. The poor girl, dejected and humiliated, was adopted by the kind Helga Hufflepuff and placed in the Hufflepuff dorm. Jessica soon found friends in Hufflepuff, who treated her just as if she were any other kid going to a new school for the first time. Her best friend was a girl named Mary Shadings, who was a very kind and funny girl. The two of them were nearly inseparable over the years, and went through many trials and adventures together. In their fifth year, however, Jessica convinced Mary to go out into the forbidden forest with her where they had a very nasty encounter with a werewolf. The two girls scarcely escaped with their lives, and Mary was bitten and transformed into a monster. Because she was now a danger to the students, Mary was expelled from Hogwarts. Jessica has been without a true friend ever since, unable to find someone to take Mary's place.
