 THE YEAR IS 1995.
This puts The Trio in its fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
After a summer of nightmares for Harry Potter, worrying for the Weasleys and Hermione Granger, and even more plotting for Lord Voldemort—life is beginning again. Students are returning to school or moving on to bigger and better things, like work. Well-seasoned wizards and witches are, well, still working. Thanks to the Ministry of Magic, everything negative is being kept hush-hush, so most of the wizarding community is unaware of just how bad it all is.
However, the Order of the Phoenix is fighting back. Against the Ministry, against Lord Voldemort. They are recruiting members and trying their damnedest to reveal the truth about the state of things. Rubeus Hagrid has set off to talk to the giants, Remus Lupin is inserting himself into the underground werewolf community, and Albus Dumbledore is doing who-knows-what (we're sure that it's all in the name of the Order, whatever it is).
Meanwhile, Hogwarts is a bit of mess. Sure, Dumbledore is still there (doing his mysterious things in secret, of course), but Dolores Umbridge is pretty much taking over, on Ministry-approved announcement at a time. She is making life at Hogwarts a living Hell, but the kids are dealing with it. In fact, they're rebelling. They have started a private club called Dumbledore's Army for everyone who actually wants to learn how to defend him-/herself—imagine that. Another group, the Inquizitorial Squad, is pretty much the anti-fun. Unless you're in that group, of course; then, you get away with about whatever you want because you're "in with Dolores".
Long story short: it's 1995, Voldemort is plotting, Hogwarts is Hell, and you're invited.
